Parks packed today — Tue thins out
Wollongong → Surfers Paradise · 5–8 October 2026
Four days. Two of you. Rhapsody Resort on the beach. Three booked things and enough sand between them to actually feel like a break.
Wollongong to the Gold Coast is 916 km each way, and about 11 hours a side with fuel and food stops. On a 5–8 October trip that leaves two genuinely usable days: the 6th and the 7th. Everything is grouped around that.
Three things are booked. Tuesday is a nature day — the Currumbin TreeTop Challenge in the morning, snorkelling at Tallebudgera Creek in the afternoon. Wednesday is Sea World, then a bathhouse in the evening so the drive home on Thursday can start at 8am.
The rest is beach, food from the apartment, and slack. With 22 hours of driving bookending the trip, the slack is the point.
Times are indicative — the drive to Surfers is 5–15 min from Rhapsody for everything on Tuesday and Wednesday, so nothing here is tight.
41 storeys, beachfront, and complimentary secure underground parking — so the AUD $813 for 3 nights is the real total, not a teaser rate. The apartment has a kitchen; breakfast and a couple of dinners cooked in cuts $200 off the trip without feeling like restraint.
$1,171 is locked the moment you book — accommodation and the two tickets. About $1,570 is committed once fuel and tolls are counted. The rest is food, spa tier and gear, which you control.
Fuel assumes 7–9 L/100 km at 205 c/L (Sep 2026 avg). Toll figures approximate — check Linkt for your exact route before you go.

Leaving at 6am gets you past Sydney before the worst of the northbound Monday-of-long-weekend flow. The heavy traffic that day is southbound, back to Sydney.
